The new version of SKAdNetwork was announced during WWDC 23.
SKAdNetwork 5 is expected to be released by the end of 2023. The popular misconception is that SKAdNetwork 5 will be released together with iOS 17. However, SKAdNetwork 4 was actually released together with iOS 16.1 on October 27th, 2022. It’s likely that Apple will take a similar approach with SKAdNetwork 5 and release it bundled with either iOS 17.1 or iOS 17.2 in Autumn 2023.
However, this will only happen when the methods and APIs become available. Advertisers will need to wait until ad networks and MMPs adopt SKAdNetwork 5. Based on previous experience with SKAdNetwork 4, this process will take at least another six months. In other words, advertisers will be able to access SKAdNetwork 5 sometime in 2024.
The only newly added feature of SKAdNetwork 5 is support for re-engagement campaigns. This is limited to targeting users who have already installed an app and does not include users who used to have the app but no longer have it at the point of re-engagement.
No updates to the existing SKAdNetwork features were announced.
